Laredo school district policy

Over the last several months, the Laredo Independent School District has been working diligently with our staff, the Board of Trustees, local health authorities, and the Texas Education Agency (TEA) to fulfill its mission to educate our students while under the threat of the COVID-19 pandemic.

To this end, LISD Trustees and District staff have thoroughly reviewed several instructional models for implementation during the 2020-2021 school year while keeping ever mindful of our responsibility to safeguard the health and safety of our students and staff.

The LISD Board of Trustees voted to implement the Remote (At-Home) Instructional Learning Model to begin August 24, through October 16, 2020. LISD will continue to monitor COVID-19 trends within our community and periodically reassess the implementation of this instructional model to make decisions for the remainder of the fall semester and school year.

This model requires the participation of all students in a teacher-driven instructional platform that will allow students to engage in our learning program from their homes. As required by the Texas Education Agency model, the District will provide online instruction as well as paper/pencil activity packets to be completed by students on a daily basis for a grade.

Teachers are tasked with delivering rigorous instruction aligned to the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) along with the daily monitoring of student progress. LISD has been working on procuring Chromebooks and the necessary resources to support at-home instruction for all students. This includes enhancing internet accessibility for our students. If your child needs internet access and or a device, please contact your child’s school.

With this being said, all students must be registered, enrolled, and participate in this instructional model to be eligible for all available program services from our school district. Please contact your home campus as soon as possible for additional details regarding registration for the 2020-2021 school year. New student registration begins July 20, 2020. Participation in our instructional programs is an essential part of providing our students with opportunities to succeed as they continue their schooling. You may also email us at LISDparents@laredoisd.org or visit the LISD website for additional back to school information.

Additional details regarding the LISD Remote (At-Home) Instructional Learning Model will be shared with our students, parents, and staff via our District webpage, local/social media, and district supervisors as the district finalizes preparations for the 2020-2021 school year. LISD will continue to work with TEA and local health authorities to establish a COVID-19 health and safety response plan for all of our schools and district departments.

While we have been dealing with an extremely challenging time in our lives, we are confident that together, we shall overcome the obstacles that lie before us on our way towards the success that our students and staff truly deserve. LISD remains Strong, Proud, and Ready for the 2020-2021 school year!
